Using Focused Inbox to Filter High-Priority Messages in Outlook Webmail

Purpose

Focused Inbox helps you stay on top of important emails by automatically sorting your inbox into two tabs:

  • Focused – Emails Outlook thinks are most important to you.

  • Other – Less important emails such as newsletters or bulk messages.

Steps to Enable and Use Focused Inbox

  1. Open Outlook Webmail

    • Log in to Outlook on the Web via Office 365.

  2. Access Settings

    • Click the gear icon (⚙) in the upper-right corner.

  3. Search for Focused Inbox

    • In the search bar, type Focused Inbox.

  4. Turn On Focused Inbox

    • Toggle Sort messages into Focused and Other to On.

  5. Review Your Inbox

    • Use the Focused and Other tabs above your message list to switch views.

  6. Train Outlook

    • Move messages between Focused and Other by right-clicking and choosing Move to Focused/Other.

    • Outlook will learn from your actions.

Tips

  • If you miss an important email, check the Other tab.

  • Works best if you regularly train it by moving misclassified messages.

  • You can turn it off anytime if you prefer a single inbox view.
